Although his reason for missing the meeting was that he overslept, it is common knowledge that he is in the process of negotiating for a new contract. Regardless of his reasons or excuses for missing the meeting, the important thing is the message that he is sending to his teammates through his actions. Since his first year in the league, he has been showing his teammates that he cares about two things, getting his own needs met and one-upping others. Confidence is a positive thing in sport, and expressing oneself makes sport interesting, but Jackson is alienating himself by taking it too far. Yes, teammates appreciate talent in one another. But what they respect, and must get from one another, is a commitment to the team and the team’s goals. It’s hard to know for sure how much internal team conflict such as this have contributed to the Eagles dismal season. Nevertheless, if they don’t deal with these issues soon, they will have to settle for being a team of talented individuals that produces mediocre performances.
